In the past several days, I spent some time working with Gui’s owner/chef Sungchul Shim and his incredible team at Gui, a steakhouse in Midtown Manhattan near Times Square.
One of the first tasks given to me was to design various aspects of the outside part of this restaurant (I am going to show some inside of the restaurants which is just incredible).
Here are some tasks for the outside:
design the A-framed sign
design the framed menu on the wall
design the window decals
Let’s talk about the progress on the A-framed sign first thus far.
A-framed Sign
Well.. time is up. I’ll be back soon!

I am back.
So the A-framed sign came today which is fantastic.
Here is how it looks and also how it compares to what it was like before:
Before:
After:
So this new sign definitely stands out and delivers the message nicely with its clean Gui branding.
Outside Framed Menu

Another thing I’ve been working on is the framed menu outside.
Here is how it looks now:
This current framed menu has 4 different pieces of paper that tell different stories about this restaurant: One about the steak menu, the other about operation hours, etc.
And here is how it looks outside against the wall:
And this is the new one:
For the new one, we combined different menus together + some additional information and went with the black and gold color scheme that stands out.

Since last time I journaled, different things I were designed which I haven’t documented yet here.
One of the designs that was done was the outside wall decals:
I guess I don’t have much time to curate these nicely but here were some photos that capture the new designs.
