Most recently, I think it was yesterday actually, I walked to Madison Square Garden because I wanted to see if I could talk to some folks there so I walked there and then stood around by the Penn Station I believe and this lady walked up to me and asked me where Penn 5 or something is which she said is a co-working space.
Then I immediately downloaded Maps on my phone as she was also saying to me that the signal is bad on her phone and then we walked to the Penn 5 or something together.
As we were walking we talked about how she was working in SF doing something related to skincare or something I forgot and I told her I do design.
Then she said I could design a brochure for her business so we exchanged numbers and I walked back to Madison Square Garden.
Then I came across this guy who was spinning his cap with his hands as he was walking out from the Penn Station toward K-town direction.
And I recognized him because he was the dancer I met when I last came to NYC in December of last month or something.
So I followed him, said hi to him and his other friend I also met before and then I danced with them.
It was nice meeting them because I danced with them in the 42nd st. subway station so I remember their dance style and just looking at them dance again on that day was such a blessing because I could analyze what they were doing better.
My style like theirs is freestyle pretty much and what I took away from encountering them again yesterday are these:
I don’t need to move a lot.
This is a very important point because beforehand I complained a bit to myself about how my mirror is not as big as like studio mirrors but then I learned from watching them and also other people I look up to that it’s more about exploring with your body as you dance rather than sometimes taking up so much space and moving rapidly.
Encountering them still gave me a firm belief that singing and dancing at the same time with the style I look up to or the style I am practicing is still possible and I still feel a full conviction that I can add something to the table when it comes to self-expression or the performance art space in the human history.
This just means that there are so many great dancers, so many great singers, and so many actors who all express themselves and as someone who feels a huge genuine urge to express himself and wants to contribute to the world of human expression or the show/performance art space, I feel thankful that these references exist because they inspire me a lot but also it connects me back to this intrinsic desire to combine them and bring something to the table which I feel the most excited about.
